Vinod Khanna was an Indian actor, producer and politician. Khanna has appeared in more than 141 films between 1968 and 2013 and is best remembered for his performance in films like Mere Apne, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Imitihaan, Inkaar, Amar Akbar Anthony, Lahu ke Do Rang, Qurbani, Dayavaan and Jurm. After making his debut in 1968, Khanna first acted in small second lead roles or negative roles.
Veteran Bollywood actor Vinod Khanna has died at 70 at Mumbai’s HN Reliance Hospital. According to the hospital, he breathed his last at 11.20am on Thursday. He was suffering from advanced bladder carcinoma (bladder cancer).
“Doctors and family were expecting a recovery but somehow his condition escalated and he succumbed today afternoon,” said a hospital source.
He was hospitalized in April first week due to severe dehydration but was later said to be stable and responding positively to treatment.
Khanna temporarily quit the film industry to follow his spiritual guru Osho Rajneesh. After a 5 year hiatus, he returned to the Hindi film industry giving two back to back hit films Insaaf and Satyamev Jayate. Khanna has two sons – Rahul Khanna and Akshaye Khanna from his first marriage and two child from his second marriage.
Vinod, who was a sitting Bharatiya Janata Party member of the Lok Sabha from the Gurdaspur constituency in Punjab, was admitted to Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre in Girgaon, Mumbai.
