Guwahati: East India Fashion Week, the gateway to Fashion Far East, has emerged as a stepping-stone for four designers from the region to participate in a fashion show in Bangkok next month.
The four designers -Pongkhi Pegu, Pooja Khemka, Charlee Mathlena and Mehzabin Ershad – are travelling to Bangkok on January 31 to take part in the fashion show being held on February 3 under the patronage of the Indian embassy in Thailand, said Fashion and Design Council (FNDC) here on Thursday.
The EIFW, organised by FNDC Northeast and the Panache Group in association with royal School of Fashion Design and Technology, was held on January 11 and 12 here.
Altogether 26 designers of the region and outside and 65 models from across the country, with the majority being from the region, participated in the event. Several prominent designers and labels of the region, including Mehzabin Ershad (Meghna’s), Kabita Baruah Medhi of Shillong, Kunal Kaushik (the Tiffany’s Fashion Week of Paris winner from the city), Jyoti & Kashmiri and Aditi Holani of Mumbai showcased their creations at the EIFW. Interesting additions to the list of designers were the students of Royal School of Fashion and Technology, who unleashed their creativity in modern and traditional outfits, along with the trainees of North East Institute of Fashion Technology.
“The EIFW has been able to create a benchmark parallel to the top of the list fashion weeks that happen across the country. Credit goes to the participating designers,” said founder-president of FNDC Northeast Medha Saikia.
