Elephant hit by train dies

Tezpur: A seven-year-old wild elephant, who had suffered multiple injuries after a passenger train hit a herd at Lanka in Hojai on Saturday, died on Monday around 3pm at the Centre for Wildlife Rescue Conservation (CWRC) in Panbari under Kaziranga National Park.

The elephant was injured while crossing the rail tracks along with four other elephants. The four elephants had died on the spot.

According to veterinarian Panjit Basumatary of the CWRC, the elephant had suffered fractures in its forehead, trunk and legs.
