Guwahati: Priyanka Chopra’s production house Purple Pebble Pictures and Shahnaab Alam’s Easterly Entertainment are jointly producing an Assamese film, Bhoga Khirikee (Broken Window), written and directed by filmmaker Jahnu Barua.
Priyanka’s mother and PPP director Dr Madhu Chopra was here on Thursday to announce their first foray into Assamese film production. She was accompanied by the film’s cast and crew.
Shahnaab Alam, an established Bollywood film producer hailing from the city, was present at the announcement with his brother Sartaj Alam, executive producer of the film.
Padma Bhusan and Padma Shri awardee Jahnu Barua, who is directing the film after a break of almost four years, said the involvement of two production houses of Mumbai would give the film a wider audience, both nationally and internationally.
Barua, although reluctant to disclose the story of the film, said, “We are making this film based on some real life incidents. A major part of the film has already been shot in and around Kaziranga for 35 days. The film is based on an issue that concerns women from the rural areas. The story revolves around a progressive-minded young woman, her experiences and day-to-day problems. The film will bring a positive mindset to viewers.”
Priyanka is the brand ambassador of Assam Tourism and her participation in regional film production of the state has been hailed as a positive move by the film fraternity and tourism department officials here.
Assam Tourism Development Corporation vice-chairman Navadeep Kalita said BK was one of the first Assamese films to be made under the state film tourism policy announced last November.
The cast of the film includes Zerifa Wahid, Seema Biswas, Joy Kashyap, Bishnu Khargoria, Sanjay Khargoria, Kashvi Sharma and Mohommed Ali Shah.
